How to Have a Nice Weekend at Home
So often we’re waiting for the 9-to-5 job weekend to end, but when it is finally there…you get too busy with chores you A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E-L-Y have to do. There’s a wooden frame to hang on the wall, prescriptions to pick up at the pharmacy, the products to grab for your dinner menu, and so on… And then boom! The weekend is gone.
Sounds very much like a Groundhog Day, doesn’t it?
On the one hand, you can’t have a full retreat every weekend. However, you still have to use these days to rest, unwind, and recharge. How? Stay with us.
#1 Think of Your Special Morning Rituals
Start your weekend off right by going to the kitchen where you make your cappuccino. Is the weather nice? Go enjoy your drink on the balcony or go outside if you happen to live in a house. Sit back, relax, and have the very first sip. If during a super-packed week, you do it on the run, it’s your chance to feel the moment.
#2 Use Cooking as Your Meditation
If you are someone who enjoys cooking, do it finally when you are not rushing. After all, it’s a great form of mindfulness, especially when you’re dealing with the recipes you love. Or, perhaps, there’s one that you have always wanted to try but were too busy to? Or even better – make your own recipe from scratch, chef! If you have kids, try to have a fun cooking session with them engaged in the safe stages. And here’s an important thing to remember: whether you’re cooking, drinking coffee, or kneading dough, be present here and now.
#3 Do Something That Gives You Pleasure
No other special mission needed!
When was the last time you did something just because it was for joy? A million light-years ago? Do it this weekend! Dance in the living room with a fluffy Mr. Jenkins, enjoy yoga, watch the movie you loved as a kid, or take a very long bath with bubbles and a facemask. No need to be engaged in a grandiose event – just simple joys that bring you happiness will do.
#4 Take a Walk
Again, there is no need to go too far. Your neighborhood is a great area to explore. Have a bike ride or take a walk if it’s nice weather outside. Chances are, you will discover something new! And to add some meaning to your journey, plan something as your eventual destination. It can be a visit to a local café or farmer’s market, so you can also buy something yummy for dinner.
#5 Invite Friends to Come Over
If you don’t like the idea of having a solo weekend, call your friends to invite them for a cup of coffee. After all, if you live a busy adult life, you probably do not even remember the last time your gang got together. Having coffee and snacks together, playing board games, or enjoying a movie marathon sounds like a nice plan for someone who tries to unwind.
So, what is a good weekend? It’s up to you to decide! It can be a relaxed time at home doing nothing or doing what matters slowly, being 100% present in the moment.
